Report of the April 18, 2010 Congregational Survey
The Educational Ministries Committee met on Monday, April 26, 2010 to consider the results of the Sunday School Interest Survey conducted on the Sunday, April 18, 2010.
The following statements summarize the most salient points :
-
68 % (88) of the 129 people who responded were open to the idea of taking July off from standard Sunday School by offering forums or theme based education. -
58% (75) of the respondents said that they would be likely to participate in alternate July Sunday School Activities. -
56% (72) of the respondents thought that Sunday School opportunities are not adequately publicized. -
Over half (16 of 31) people who said that they do not attend Sunday School regularly indicated that they would be interested but they are not sure which class to join or who to speak to about finding a class.
A copy of the complete survey results is available from Laura Abernathy via email at aber2@windstream.net
After reviewing this information, The Educational Ministries Committee decided to move forward with plans for an alternative Sunday School Experience for July 2010 (July 4, 11, 18, and 25.) The Committee recognizes the reluctance of some classes to participate and will make it clear that no class is REQUIRED to dismiss during the month of July.

Educational Ministries News
The Educational Ministries Committee is hard at work planning for the July Sunday School Experience. There will more details coming soon, but the information provided below is intended to inform everyone of what is forthcoming.
On July 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th, we will be offering a choice of three topics during the Sunday School Hour. The tentative topics are:
- "The Four Things that Matter Most " (four things most important to say to those in your life), taught by Pastor Rhoades
- “Taking Faith Home / Passing on Faith”, taught by Liz Fisher
- Bible study (the teacher and the exact topic has not yet been determined)
The Committee recognizes the reluctance of some classes to participate. No class is REQUIRED to dismiss during the month of July. We hope that people will demonstrate the openness that was indicated in the survey and give this a try. It will allow our dedicated Sunday School Teachers and opportunity to have a respite, enjoy the teaching of others, and rejuvenate before we resume a regular schedule on August 1st. The Educational Ministries Committee will meet again on June 7th and June 28th to continue work on this exciting opportunity in the life of our church. We are looking forward to July and we hope that you will share your thoughts about our plans with any of the members of the committee. Those members include: Laura Abernathy, Chairperson, Deb Troutman, Martha Yount, Jessica Drye, Kiana Sinz, , and Reid Mullis , Council Representative. |
